October 12th Build Day!

The playground is coming, the playground is coming! Yes, we are on for Saturday October 12th to install our new playground at White’s Park. It has been a challenge getting the playground here in a timely manner but we have confirmation that it is on its way. We hope you can be a part of this exciting event to build a playground at White’s Park!

There will be other activities happening that morning including gardening, painting and kid’s activities if you are interested in helping in other areas. The day will start at 8:00 a.m. with the unveiling of our Playground of Heroes sign and celebrating our 2013 heroes! We will work hard right until lunch and the grand opening at 1:00 p.m.

If you aren’t able to make it during the morning we encourage you to come down at 1:00 to be a part of the grand opening. We would love to have a swarm of kids racing to be the first to play on the equipment so bring your kids, grandkids, neighbor’s kids, nieces , and/or nephews!

Please take the time to register by clicking on the “Join the Effort” link on the sidebar to the right. The information on the form is outdated but it will give us your name, email address and area of interest for volunteering. Thank you and look forward to seeing you on the 12th at White’s Park!

White Park Playground Project - August 22 UPDATE

Here We Are - 29 days away from the build!!!

August 22, 2013

We are pleased to inform you that we have over 88 adult volunteers signed up and 70 kids signed up for the build!  Those are great numbers that we want to increase - Many hands make light work!!!

We are looking for folks who might want to 'oversee' the work around painting, stream work, gardeners, some folks skilled at painting a mural, with other desires to come.

As you know the date was postponed from 8/8 to 9/21 - a Saturday starting at 8 am.  Please tell all your friends and encourage them to sign up on the link on this blog site.  This is an excellent way to build community, show the strength in numbers that Rutland has to offer, and create something long lasting for the children and families of Rutland.

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Due to logistical challenges with playground equipment arriving in time for our build day on August 8th, we have changed the build day to September 21. The extension will expand the equipment available, expand our volunteer base and allow us to complete our vision of having a playground for all children regardless of ability. We look forward to celebrating the first day of fall as a community at White Park.

Please spread the word! Encourage anyone interested in volunteering on Saturday September 21st to sign-up online.

Pictures of the Dotmocracy in action!

Kids at Northeast School making their choices!
Kids designing their hands that will
be used as the ribbon in the ribbon ceremony

Decision making happening at Rutland Intermediate School!
The dotmocracy votes have been sent in!

A playground engineer is now using the votes  to design a playground with the pieces that were most popular with the Rutland kids! If you were not able to partake in the voting that does not mean that you are not vital to the process of getting the play ground built. We still need lots of volunteers and not just for building but also painting, gardening, registration, and much more!

Make sure to sign up to volunteer to get involved and so you can see first which pieces ended up getting the most votes.

Dot Mocracy started today 7/8/13!!

What is a Dot Mocracy? Well some of us know it as using a tool called multi-voting. This is where every eligible "voter" gets a certain number of votes to cast in any manner they desire. Usually voters are given (usually) 5 'dots' to place on various choices to allow the voters to signify which items are of most import to the overall group. This is the methodology being used to allow the kids from our community to choose the parts of the structure they most desire be put in place at White Park on the BUILD DAY, April 8, 2013. Today Cindi Wight and April Cioffi went to Northeast School Tapestry program and Thomas Hartigan joined them later at the Boys and Girls Club. The voting is well underway. Tomorrow voting occurs at the Rutland Intermediate School Tapestry program and at the Northwest School Tapestry program. There are definitely some popular items already. Once the voting is complete we will share the results and a photo or two of the votes. Don't forget to sign up to volunteer by clicking the Join the Effort link! We have a building number of folks, but can use many more. Get to it!! Have a great day! Community Building HERE WE COME!

The more volunteers we have participating, the more INDEPENDENT this effort will be! This is going to be a great day for Rutland. For our young, it will probable also help further their involvement in the community and probably build future leaders. Have a great weekend everyone~!
